   Granddaddy Elijah Caldwell (1855-1932)
   He was a Primitive Baptist preacher. Lived in Rome. He had a small lot, had a garden in the backyard. Had a red horse he kept in the back alongside the garden. He and Grandmother Clara drove the horse and buggy to Midway Church at Armuchee to preach once a month, the first Sunday.
   They had a reunion one day. It was in warm weather. They spread lunch on the front porch. We stood in the yard and ate lunch. The first time I had ever eaten oatmeal cookies. They were so good. They had come to Midway one Saturday. Came over to our house (Frank Caldwell's) for lunch. While we were eating, is when Oother (her brother) had a convulsion. He passed away later.
   Granddad had a store when he lived at Glenwood, where the mall (Berry Mall) is on Hwy. 27. before moving to Rome. His first wife was Sarah Scott, his second wife was Fannie, and his third wife was Clara Pass. He had white hair, white beard and he let the hair on his chin grow about 3-4 inches long. It looked very neat. They had the first inside bathroom or commode, the only thing, no tub or shower. It would scare us to pull that long chain to flush the commode.
